Genuine Ice Cream thanksgiving tablescape shoot

Legacie Studios | genuine Ice cream co

Kelsey from Legacie studios put together this incredible tabletop design. She sent me the design and said, “bright Thanksgiving” is the goal! This gallery came together as a playful take on Thanksgiving—one that doesn’t take tradition too seriously but still feels thoughtful and warm. The idea was to create something that felt joyful and a little unexpected, while still being rooted in the season and the act of gathering around a table. The amount of color we were able to pull together and tie through with the ceramics, flatware and these locally grown flowers still have me smiling every time I see these photos. I’m on a journey of embracing color in almost all of my life, and I no longer say things like, “I don’t really like ________ color.” Because I always eat my words. I also used to think variegated flowers were a bummer. Now I can’t design without them. Just goes to prove that we’re all changeable and we’re all learning!

Working with Genuine Ice Cream was a big part of the fun, local energy. They make all their ice creams in Montana. Their brand is fun, colorful, and…well..genuine, and that really influenced the direction of the florals. Instead of leaning into muted fall tones or classic Thanksgiving palettes, we embraced brighter colors, movement, and a more relaxed approach. The flowers feel loose and expressive, not tightly arranged, which was very intentional. I wanted them to feel alive—like they were meant to be enjoyed, not perfected Kelsey styled the table to feel welcoming and unfussy—very much a part of her branding. Everything works together, but nothing matches too neatly. That balance was important. Thanksgiving can sometimes feel heavy or overly formal, and this setup was meant to feel lighter—more like a gathering of people who genuinely want to be there, eat good food, and linger a little longer. What I love most about this gallery is that it feels human. There’s room for laughter, spills, second servings, and conversations that stretch past dessert. The florals add saturated, deep Thanksgiving color and texture without being heavy or moody.

At the end of the day, this wasn’t about reinventing Thanksgiving. It was about showing that holiday tables can be creative, personal, and fun—while still feeling grounded and meaningful. A reminder that celebration doesn’t have to look one specific way to feel special.
